Low-key Game Night

Raise your hand if you played more board games during quarantine than all of your childhood combined. Same girl, same. Unfortunately while I was busy playing games on a weekly basis they were limited to our small pod of people. I’ve been looking forward to spending time with friends we missed during that time and decided a game night would be perfect. My sister-in-law introduced us to Settlers of Catan early last year and we are addicted. Here’s how to throw a low key game night in 1,2,3…

  1. Think Small

4’s a crowd! You do not have to invite a ton of people to get game night cracking, in fact a lot of board games max out at 4 players. Keep the guest list low key. Settlers of Catan, Code names and Mexican Train Dominoes are crowd pleasers.

  2. Small Bites

Half the fun of game night is the food. Set out an area for food where your guests can grab a plate to nibble on throughout the game (add flowers and a candle for ambience). Choose one item to make and outsource the rest.

Sweet: jelly beans, butterscotch chocolate balls

Savory: olives, cheese, chips & salsa, artichoke dip, nuts

  3. Music

This evenings playlist; cocktail jazz anyone? Believe me, it’s the perfect background noise in between rolls of the dice

Recipe Notes:

This is the second time I made Ina’s spinach artichoke dip and its a 10/10. The thing that sets this dip apart from so many others is the caramelized onions. I get a baguette, slice it into crostini and crisp them in the oven. DEE-lish.

This recipe is not available on her site, but it is included in her newest cookbook.
