Pokemon Birthday Party

My twins were turning 7 and their number one desired theme for their birthday party was Pokémon. I tried to lead them in other directions but they were dead set on it. It’s not that I have anything against Pokemon, but its completely over-run our lives and house at this point, and I just hate the classic color combo - yellow, black and red - yuck! I decided to find a way to make it somewhat cute and rejected the black part of the theme. Here are the details:

The Invites

I ordered these invites on Etsy and then used my Canva app to edit them. Then I clicked the “print” button and ordered them to be printed at my Local FedEx. I was happy with how easy the process was and they were ready within 24 hours. I ordered red envelopes on amazon and then sent them to school and asked their teachers to help disperse them to their entire classes.

Photo Arch & Balloon Garland

You may recall the backstory of the arch that I shared Here, but this time around I had the idea to make the plain white arch into a poke ball. I bought red thick craft board, outlined with a pencil and cut the arch. I then secured it in place with black craft duct tape. I bought a $4 black party serving tray and taped it onto the arch, then taped a plastic white disposable plate that I drew a small black circle on the center of. I bought this balloon garland and used my balloon machine to blow everything up. If you follow my instagram, I shared a behind the scenes balloon breakthrough I had and you can find that on my highlight reel called “Pokemon Party”. I added this Pikachu Balloon Here.

Food

For food we decided to keep it super simple and provide pizza and cake. We ordered Costco pizza and it was a great decision- in fact we bought too many and ended up handing out whole pizzas to the adults as party favors! For the cake I went on Walmart online (I googled Pokémon Birthday cake and it came up with the cutest store bought option) and looked at their custom cake selection and then put my order in. I’m not gonna lie- I was a bit uneasy ordering without having spoken to a human being, but the day before pick up I called the Bakery department and they assured me the cake would be ready. It was a great- the frosting turned all the kids mouths blue which was pretty funny. We have local baker who does custom cakes for the same price as the Walmart one but with everything I had going on I thought it was more convenient to do the “click and order route” and I am happy I did.

Fun

My parents have the best backyard, so I already knew I would be utilizing it for the party. They have a lot of space, a kids playground, trampoline and a giant shark water slide. The kids went CRAZY on the shark waterslide- the whole party revolved around it. We ended up making the last minute decision to move the party to one day later because it was cold and drizzling on our originally scheduled date- it just wouldn’t have worked for a water slide party. I rented tables and chairs and decided to put a Pokemon goodie bag at every setting. Instead of filling the goodie bags we did a “Goodie Bag Fill Up Station”- the kids loved “shopping” this table and filling up their bags. I would highly recommend doing these at kids parties- instead of handing them a goodie bag filled up, this creates an activity as well.

Decor:

I found that of all children’s theme parties, Pokemon was the most limited in selection and offerings. We made it work though- a particular highlight was the poke ball lanterns that I had my dad rig with fishing wire from their magnolia tree. If you don’t see a link for an item you see in any of the photos then that means I got it at Party City.
