The Twin’s 5th Birthday Party

For the twins 5th birthday I merged Spiderman with the Avengers as per their request. With COVID making everything funky, and their class at school only having 5 others kids we were not expecting anyone outside the family. With that being said I do not have any goodie bag info as I did not do them but I would highly suggest Party City for filling out goodie bags. Knowing it was just a family party I did not want to get too carried away with the budget so I focused on 3 major things for this party:

Wow Factor

I think all parties should shoot for this, especially when kids are involved so you can see their face light up! Last year was their Dino-Four party and there was a 6 ft dinosaur who came to the party. This year I focused on Spiderman! I ordered a large Halloween spider net that was strung from their playset and found a great Spiderman balloon in a crouching position at the top. The twins had lots of giggles when they saw it and Teddy spent a good amount of time trying to get the balloon unstrung.

Tablescape

Kids parties are typically the only celebrations where I use paper plates/napkins/cups. Kids love to see their theme and the party stores have made it all so easy. In the past I have used those plastic tablecloths and truly despise them but I learned this tip from Courtney Whitmore’s Instagram: buy the polyester tablecloths on amazon that come in a million colors instead! They are way cheaper than typical table linens but you don’t have to resort to essentially having a colored trash bag covering your table. The boys favorite color is red and I was really happy with the punchy look of it. The impulse section in Target is a great place to grab on theme coloring books/packs. Party City & Amazon were great for avengers plates. Draping the superhero capes over the back of each chair adds playfulness and punch.

Floral

Whenever I am setting a tablescape the three oldest kids always get really excited (they like fancy things, yes I have trained them well). They will say “What day is it?” because they know it typically means it’s a holiday or celebration. They will always say “Oooh Mom, I like your flowers” when I add the centerpiece to the table. This is why I decided to do a floral centerpiece at a 5 year old boys party! I’m not crazy, I promise. Just add a few action figures on the table, and a few coming out of the arrangement itself and everything evens out. I order these Avengers cutouts that came on toothpicks but I added kabob sticks for the length. I grabbed a cobalt blue vase I had in my arsenal and was really happy how it came out. If you saw my Instagram story then you know I went to the floral wholesaler (I was so excited to snag anemones for this as it was in my original vision).

Kid’s parties are fun and probably the easiest type of celebration to keep on budget! Remember: kids are happy with a pack of crayons and a free on-theme print out at each place setting! Repetition is key.

Check your local grocery stores bakery before spending a small fortune on a hip bakery. I got this double tier Marvel cake at Safeway and it did not disapoint.

My final word of advice: 3 balloons on the mailbox outfront always sets the tone of excitement.

Cheers!
