Would I Recommend: Yes

Rating: 5/5

Additional Thoughts: Gah! I just loved this book. We fall in love with so many different people that played integral roles in our protagonists life. The novel explores loss, gender roles, addiction, politics, wealth, class, love and family. In the end you see how many lives are lived in one long lifetime and how the journey can take you places you could never imagine during childhood. I was a bit hesitant to even pick up this book considering I knew it opened and closed on pandemics. Like most people I don’t want another reminder of this difficult time, especially when i’m escaping into a book. I am so glad I did not go with that instinct because the story is so much bigger than that.

Additional Author Thoughts: This is my first Isabel Allende novel. When I did some digging I could see that she

has 26 best sellers and I am SO late to this game. Her smash success was The House of the Spirits (which was turned

into a movie staring Meryl Streep - adding to my must watch list). I'm excited to dive into some of her other works

in the future.
